Dance: Alexandria takes first place in kick, second in jazz at Foley

Alexandria’s dance team continues to move forward with the season nearing conference and section meeting time as the Cardinals traveled to Foley High School on Jan. 15 and returned with a first place in the kicking competition.

Alexandria finished with a 3.5 ranking point total in kicks in a field that included nine other programs. Crosby-Ironton finished second at 7 and Holdingford rounded out the top three with a total of 11.5 ranking points.

The Cardinals finished second in the college jazz competition with a total of 6 ranking points. That was behind Detroit Lakes (3), while Alexandria also finished fifth in the junior college jazz category with a total of 14 points.

“The team played with tremendous energy on Saturday,” Alexandria head coach Kassandra Gibbons said. “We knew it would be a battle as all three of our dances had holes in the formations due to injury and illness. The formations are marked in dance, so we had to catch up with our precision and performance energy. The girls were able to overcome the challenge in all three dances.
