Inside the new Cheese and Pickle Shop which is about to open at South Leicestershire Farm
A new shop, selling everything from locally produced cheese and pickles to cute cards and Easter bunting, is set to open in the county. Cheese and Pickle will be welcoming customers from 9am today, Saturday April 2 – but we were invited early to bring you a preview.
The delicatessen and household goods store is at Pennbury Farm, on the outskirts of the village of Great Glen. It is based in the building formerly occupied by the Pennbury Farm Shop, which closed at the end of February this year.
Cheese and Pickle is started by Kate Foster, who previously ran Paper House on the farm. Kate opened Paper House in August 2020, between the two national lockdowns, and she says it has become a favorite with lovers of beautiful cards, puzzles and stationery.

Kate told LeicestershireLive that when the largest space in the former farm shop became available it was too good an opportunity to miss. She now combines her two favorite things – stationery and food – in a new, bigger store.
Customers will be able to purchase locally produced food and drink, including milk, cream and milkshakes from Kingarth Farm Dairy in Burton Overy, jams and pickles produced by a mother-daughter duo in Knighton, bread and other baked goods from Rutland’s Hambleton Bakery. , and cheeses like Sparkenhoe Red Leicester and Battlefield Blue from Leicestershire Handmade Cheese Company in Upton, near Market Bosworth.
There’s coffee from St Martin’s Coffee Roasters, based at Pennbury Farm, as well as cakes from Leicestershire pastry chef Fiona Cairns, who created Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding cake in 2011.
The shop also offers a seasonal treats table, which for now is dedicated to Easter – with products such as Easter egg hunt kits, make your own bunny mask kits and plenty of edible treats. There are also beautiful household items and all Paper House favorites for all ages, from puzzles to greeting cards.
Cheese and Pickle hours of operation will be Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (closed Mondays except holidays). Pennbury Farm is also home to an independent cafe and shop Lot Liv, as well as St Martin’s Coffee Roasters.
