Jimmie Herrod will perform at PSU

Jimmie Herrod, who made the Season 16 finale of America’s Got Talent, will perform at a Portland State University concert on June 6.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Former America’s Got Talent finalist Jimmie Herrod will perform in a concert at Portland State University on June 6. Herrod received a master’s degree in jazz studies from the university in 2016. He was a season 16 finalist of America’s Got Talent.

“I think America’s Got Talent gave me exposure that I could never have fought for, and I also didn’t have the funds to pay for that kind of airtime,” Herrod said.

The concert will feature jazz music and original songs composed by Herrod. He will also perform with his former teacher and mentor George Colligan. Colligan said Herrod’s success in the music industry has shed a lot of positive light on the university.

“He’s developed a following based on 5% of what he can do. As a songwriter and jazz musician and an incredible vocal talent and creative artist, you’ll see that in this gig,” Colligan said.

Herrod said these days touring with the band Pink Martini keeps him busy and away from home in Portland. He said he loved living in Portland and had been here for almost a decade. He said PSU gave him the kind of education he wanted and he was happy to play there for the first time since graduating.

“This concert is a celebration of all things current and past at PSU, from alumni like me and current students, and faculty coming together to play music,” Herrod said.

The concert will take place on June 6 at 7 p.m. at Lincoln Performance Hall on the PSU campus. Those interested in purchasing tickets can find them on the the university’s website.
