Man helps bring culture and art to Cairo

CAIRO, Ill. (KFVS) – A town in Heartland is contributing something to help stimulate arts and culture in the community.

A man from Cairo brings a variety of dance, music, culture and art to the area for free.

“Bringing a different dimension to this field and I think it’s going to be enlightening and informative for anyone who chooses to participate,” said Harold Jones of the Harold Jones Fine Arts Center in Cairo.

Next week, a filmmaking and media arts workshop is scheduled at the arts center.

Harold Jones said it’s workshops like this that the Southern Illinois area is desperate for here.

“If kids don’t have the ability to worry about these things, or young adults, then they’re less able to appreciate these kinds of things in life,” said Harold Jones.

If you wish to attend, it is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 28, 29 and 30 at the Center des Beaux-Arts on Commercial Avenue.

The workshop speaker is Dr JP Sniadecki, Associate Professor of Cinema at Northwestern University.

“The Fine Arts Center is also sponsoring, for the first time in over 20 years, the 2nd annual Smooth Jazz on the River Festival to be held in Fort Defiance,” said Jones. “It will be September 3-4 with two days of jazz, food and fun.”
