Sold-out shows and “The Lost Leonardo” • St Pete Catalyst

At American Stage, they have a problem.

It’s a good problem to have, however. Each remaining performance of the theater’s current show, Natalie Symons’ People downstairs, Is exhausted. This means that tonight, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, plus next Friday, Saturday and Sunday, there are no more seats, no tickets available, nada. The last show is on Sunday October 3.

Across the bay, the Jobsite Theater opens Dr. Ride’s American Beach House by Liza Birkenmeier Friday (read more about this dark and funny Friday show in the Catalyst). And the one-act showcase of the Tampa Repertory Theater, pairing up Every shining thing with Open, continues this weekend and next.

(Speaking as we were of Natalie Symons, the playwright will be at studio @ 620 on Monday night for the official book launch party for her first novel, Found in the bone.)

At the movie theater

Opening Friday at Greenlight Cinema, the documentary The lost Leonardo traces the “discovery”, in 2005, of a painting entitled Salvator Munti – considered (by many, but not all) as a lost work of Leonardo da Vinci. In 2017, Salvator Munti – an image of Christ – became the most expensive painting ever to be auctioned ($ 450 million, bought by a Saudi prince and reportedly stored aboard his superyacht).

From the “you can’t make this stuff up” department, here’s an story about the mystery of Salvator Munti.

Today at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., Greenlight screens The inn out of nowhere, a mock documentary starring singer / songwriter St. Vincent.
