SHELBURNE— apex orchards prepares to celebrate the peach harvest, the tasty local fruits and the orchard itself with its peach festival.

The sixth annual event will take place on Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.

The first Peach Festival was held in 2016, after Apex opened its new on-farm store. Since then, it’s been held every summer except in 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic began, according to Apex Orchards assistant manager Jacob Fleron.

Attractions will include lawn games, peach tastings and peach pies, Fleron said. Food and drink will be provided by Caravan Kitchen and Hitchcock Brewing Co. There will also be a peach recipe competition overseen by farm shop owner Tim Smith and guest judges.

Although the musical lineup for the weekend is yet to be fully confirmed, Fleron said Mackie Gene Spear will be performing. He said Apex Orchards is in contact with other potential artists, including jazz musicians and family artists.

Fleron estimates around 1,500 people visited the Farm Shop during the 2021 Peach Festival weekend, and he expects a similar turnout this summer.

When asked if the festival was the highlight of Apex Orchards’ year, Fleron replied, “It’s definitely the highlight of our peach season. We love picking apples here. Over the seasons, we have many highlights.
